| | Unity Steps
The combined experience of Gamblers Anonymous shows that unity
through the 12 unity steps is a
necessary part of recovery.
Putting the priority on recovery, rather than
outside and non related issues is the main life saving objective.
Key Benefits
- Using the 12 GA Unity Steps at the group and area level ensures that
outside issues or personal agendas do not detrimentally effect GA and erode
its usefulness.
- Utilizing the healthy principals embodied in the 12 GA Unity Steps, and
applying them to an recovering individuals personal recovery program is
often an effective guideline for dealing with involvements and relationships
in that individuals life.
- Using the 12 GA Unity Steps guidelines in any group dealings with outside
agencies and other organizations, serves to protect the group from any
unnecessary or unhealthy dealings with these
agencies.
The Unity Steps
- Our common welfare should come first; personal recovery
depends upon group unity.
- Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern.
- The only requirement for membership in Gamblers Anonymous
is a desire to stop gambling.
- Each group should be self-governing except in matters
affecting other groups or Gamblers Anonymous as a whole.
- Gamblers Anonymous has but one primary purpose - to carry
its message to the compulsive gambler who still suffers.
- Gamblers Anonymous ought never endorse, finance or lend the
Gamblers Anonymous name to any related facility or outside enterprise, lest
problems of money, property or prestige divert us from our primary purpose.
- Every Gamblers Anonymous Group ought to be fully
self-supporting, declining outside contributions.
- Gamblers Anonymous should remain forever non-professional,
but our service centers may employ special workers.
- Gamblers Anonymous, as such, ought never be organized; but
we may create service boards or committees directly responsible to those
they serve.
- Gamblers Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues; hence
the Gamblers Anonymous name ought never be drawn into public controversy.
- Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather
than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of
press, radio, films and television.
- Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of the Gamblers
Anonymous program, ever reminding us to place principles above
personalities.
The use of these 12 Unity Steps is a safeguard for the
recovering individual, making sure that the GA program stays focused on its main
purpose.

Regular attendance at GA meetings and using the GA 12 Recovery
Steps are the best treatment for recovering gamblers/
adrenalin addicts.
The GA recovery steps are adapted with permission from the AA twelve
steps, which were written in 1937 from an accumulation of spiritual
principles from various recovery and religious organizations.
These steps are non-denominational thereby opening
GA membership to all races, religions, professions and social
levels.
