Regular attendance at GA meetings is an important facet of every compulsive gamblers recovery program. GA recommends that members attend at least one full meeting per week. Experience shows us that the more meetings that a individual  member attends, the better their chances are for a good clean recovery.

Regular attendance at GA meetings has many benefits:

  • Attending GA meetings regularly presents opportunities to relate to other members and allows the gambling addict to see how other recovering gambling addicts have handled similar life situations.
  • Attending GA meetings regularly helps handle the gambling addict to go through the normal 'highs' and 'lows' of addiction recovery, on an ongoing basis.
  • Attending GA meetings regularly replaces the unhealthy social structure for the recovering addict, giving opportunities to make new friends with lots of common experiences, attitudes and interests.
  • Attending GA meetings regularly offer the recovering gambling addict the opportunity to remind themselves of how it was after the initial recovery enables them to live better.

GA Meetings

A typical GA meeting is about one hour long, the first 15 minutes is  usually spent reading the welcome booklet that has a lot of information for recovering gamblers and repetition is a great learning tool. Then the therapy portion of the meeting begins.

Open and Closed Meetings

All listed meetings are closed*. For anonymity reasons these 'closed meetings are open only to folks who have 'a desire to refrain from compulsive gambling'.

*The first Tuesday of the month is an open meeting which family and friends or other interested parties may attend.

When there are anniversary celebrations for a member reaching a 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 year of abstinence milestone, the meeting is usually open to friends and family.

Regular attendance at GA meetings and using the GA 12 Recovery Steps are the best treatment for recovering gamblers/ adrenalin addicts.

The GA recovery steps are adapted with permission from the AA twelve steps, which were written in 1937 from an accumulation of spiritual principles from various recovery and religious organizations.

These steps are non-denominational thereby opening  GA membership to all races, religions,  professions and social levels.
